WHO ARE SERAPHS? - Isaiah 6:1-7

SERAPHIM OR SERAPHS?
The word Seraphim (singular - seraph, plural - seraphim) means “burning ones” or nobles. They are also sometimes called the 'ones of love' because their name comes from the Hebrew root for 'love'. Seraphim are only fully described in the Bible on one occasion. This is in the book of the prophet Isaiah, when he was commissioned by God to be a prophet and had a vision of heaven.
So these types of heavenly beings have six wings, but they only use two of them for flight. It sounds strange to use wings to cover your face and feet. They may well cover their face because, being so close to God, they would witness His full glory which would be too powerful to behold. Feet are considered 'unclean' and so not worthy to be shown to God (Some scholars also think that 'feet' could actually mean 'genitals'). We're not told how many Seraphim there are, but it's more than one.
Their position is fying above God's throne, unlike the Cherubim who are beside/around it. Their primary duty is to constantly glorify and praise God and they may also be the personal 'attendant' angels of God. Their eternal song "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." has been used by Jews and Christians for thousands of years to join with the angels in praising God. In Hebrew, to use the same word three times to describe something means that the person/object is utterly like the word. So calling God Holy three times means that God is utterly and perfectly holy.
In Jewish folklore, and some later Christian works, the Seraphim are said to be the highest rank of angel. This is probably because of their very close proximity to God. In art, Seraphim are often red (because of their names 'burning ones') and are shown holding a faming sword with the words 'holy, holy, holy' on the blade.
The coal in Isaiah's vision, that touched his lips, was used to signify that Isaiah was purifed and ft to be a prophet. The coal came from the altar in heaven, so would have been very powerful. Fire is also used in many religions and faiths as a way of purifying and cleansing something.
Now let's answer the question - WHO ARE SERAPHS?
Isaiah Chapter 6 explains
⊙ Seraphs are those who sit very high above God (v2).
⊙ God gave Seraphs six wings (v2).
He wants us to be moderate in everything.
- Two in covering their eyes, because we have to be also moderate in sight, Seraphs have to be blind to worldly things but surprisingly today Seraphs are even running more after what they are to cover their eyes from.
- Two in covering their feet, because we as Seraphs have be moderate in movement, not going beyond God's territory. Surprisingly, today Seraphs are really going beyond God’s boundary and ignorantly paying homage to the territory of devil to acquire power, wealth and influence as they have failed to make use of their first two wings in covering their eyes from these things.
- Two in flying, because Seraphs are angels and we all believe that the paramount characteristics of an angel is flying. Therefore, Seraphs should not be an exception. Isaiah 40:31 King James Version (KJV) ‘’But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint''.
Waiting upon the Lord by not looking in a worldly direction (Cover Face), and not walking the worldly direction (Cover Feet). Seraphs of today are not reaching the expected destination when fying because the gravity of what they look at and where they go is pulling them down.
⊙Seraphs are those who sing Holy all the time (v3). Surprisingly, looking well into Seraphim church of today, the music and the kind of praises they render to God is not Holy, which is making God to dethrone us from the above location to below. The duty of Seraphs is to sing praises to God and God only, but today we have lost that focus as Seraphs began to sing praises to man because of what they tend to receive from man.
⊙Seraphs are those with live coal which represents a strong prayer life (v6). The question now is that, is the Seraphim church of today a praying church or a dancing church? Let's think!
⊙Seraphs are those who wash people from their sins and ensure their salvation (v7). Tears roll on my face when I see today's Seraphim church. Instead of being salvaging church, it has become a consuming church. Seraphs of today now consume souls instead of saving soul, we ourselves are in sins instead of washing sins away from the world.
Conclusively, I advice fellow Seraphs to let us go back and imitate the heavenly ones we share name with so that we can partake in the glory they possessed and be able to hear in the last day, welcome to the house of your father.
Thanks for your rapt attention!
