Religious Leaders should be used to checkmate people in governance - Baba Olori
The supreme head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence Prophet Dr. Solomon Adegboyega Alao has recommended a new approach to checkmate individuals in power in the country.
He said, "During the colonial and immediately after, the government at all tiers of governance relied majority on traditional rulers in major towns and villages to checkmate the hot heads because at the time the traditional rulers played the role of semi or pseudo judiciary and law enforcement agency on all their residents in their respective communities and they were very close to their traditional rulers. Things have changed now because religious leaders both Christians and Muslims interact more closely with the believers of these faiths and thus in a position to influence their adherents. I believe the time has come to focus more on that direction i.e. using religious leaders to handle their respective members who they interact with every week either in the church or mosque."
He made this statement at the press conference to herald the 2024 Annual General Conference of the church to be held from Thursday, January 25 to Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Ugbo-Nla, Ondo State.
This year's conference with the theme "Marching towards New Glory", Haggai 2:9, is to be hosted by the C&S Church, of Zion, Ugbo nla Headquarters, Ilaje, Ondo State. It was gathered that the Ondo State Governor, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa along with other dignitaries and prominent figures will grace the conference opening.
The clergyman was worried about the state of the economy and security in the country. He's bemoaned the fact that the nation's security situation seems to be getting worse despite the armed services' increased financing.
Speaking on the state of the economy, He opined that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over a battered economy and Nigerians should not expect a miracle within a short period.
“It is therefore on the forgone statements that it is not sensible to expect an immediate better tomorrow but an immediate more difficult tomorrow rather than being made to believe on the contrary”, he said.
The Supreme head agreed with the movement of some agencies to Lagos and others. He said it will help to reposition the economy for effective management.
Lastly, He said the administration needs more prayers.
